Well. I hooked another unit up and had the same results: 6 ft depth and only an accurate temp reading. Tried the transducer that came with the unit and still had the same result. I checked all the us2 cable connections including the one inside the head and they are fine. Next, I unwired the depthfinder from the trim and ran wires to the fuse box under my console and STILL nothing. I ran to radio shack and picked up two ferrite chokes and put them on the power cord. Now i can see my hand, tongue of the trailer, etc. on the unit. However, nothing seems to work when using the us2 transducer. Ive decided that it's shot. I still have some problems though or they seem to be problems anyway. Clear Mode doesn't seem to pick up anything while Max does, I can't pick up much of anything with the 83khz beam, and now my depth only reads 0.6 feet. Are these only problems because the transducer isn't submerged? I know it's detecting my hand underneath and i can hear the sonar clicking, but no depth change. My next plan is to order a puck from humminbird and mount it on my trolling motor.

Transducers must be in the water to work properly. Sonar does not work in the air. (if I'm reading your post correctly)

I think you are B Bill. You have to test sonar with the transducer in teh water Carl.

After finishing yard work i had a chancr to get on the water and fiddle with the depthfinder. My hunch was right: the us2 is shot. The transducer from humminbird works like a charm, though. I'm still not sure what a ferrite choke does, but two around the power cable were the ticket. Do y'all know if humminbird exchanges transom mound transducers for trolling motor pucks, or will they just send a mounting bracket for my tm? Thank y'all very much for all the help. Good fishin'.

    Carl3of5,
That has to be a new and unused/mounted transducer to qualify for the transducer exchange program:
