Default Down imaging through electrical tape.

Wanting to make my kayak unit ready. I have the Elite 5 dsi on my boat, I have a spare transducer, the transom mount part cost $30 delivered, I can rig it without for free. I have a swing arm that would hold the transducer in the water when fishing from the yak, I can make a L bracket, tape the transducer to the bottom of the L. Do you guys think there would be any reduced quality in shooting through tape?

It will reduce sensitivity a little, but probably not enough to be an issue.

I'm assuming you don't have the transom mount sheath for the extra transducer ??

I would think you could tape the front & rear ends of the tdx, leaving the center portion open, and it wouldn't interfere with the signal. I say that, because I have the E5DSI and my tdx is mounted on the trolling motor with the bracket sleeve gizmo that's for that purpose ... and it encloses all but the bottom center portion of the tdx module. See what I mean in these pictures :

The DSI crystal puts out a fan shaped sonar beam of only a few degrees in width, so I doubt it is very big in size & likely centered in the plastic module.

Same one that is on my trolling motor. I've broke two of them. Finally bought the transducer "Shield and Saver" at BassPro. That plastic that comes for the trolling motor mount don't take much to break, be careful.
