    I'm assuming you don't have the transom mount sheath for the extra transducer ??

    I would think you could tape the front & rear ends of the tdx, leaving the center portion open, and it wouldn't interfere with the signal. I say that, because I have the E5DSI and my tdx is mounted on the trolling motor with the bracket sleeve gizmo that's for that purpose ... and it encloses all but the bottom center portion of the tdx module. See what I mean in these pictures :

    The DSI crystal puts out a fan shaped sonar beam of only a few degrees in width, so I doubt it is very big in size & likely centered in the plastic module.
