Thread: 788 Slow Speed Readings

Guys I have ridden this horse to death so I'll back off. I got a spring catalog s little bit ago and in the HB section they are showing pictures of the 900 series that you can read the mph at .02. There is someone somewhere who can help me. I just don't know who that is. I am not confused, I know what several customer service technicians have told me.

If Humminbird actually told you that you must have done something to really whizz them off. Go buy a Lowrance, problem solved.
And you may still be confused. I've never heard of one reading 1/100 mph. 1/10 mph? Yes, but not in 1/100 increments.

Maybe I missed it in there somewhere, but is your problem unit a internal GPS antenna unit? These sometimes have issues with GPS speeds under 1.5 mph or so. You can switch the unit mount with the older 788, if it has an external GPS antenna it should fix the problem, if it does help, you can buy a y cable to run both units off the external antenna. Hope this helps!

That external GPS antenna with the Heading Sensor will fix your problem. Did mine. Shame a man's gotta spend another $160 to fix something that shoulda worked in the first place.

Talked to Jimmie at BPS today. He told me the same thing HB told me. The units with down imaging and or side imaging are not reading at slow speeds. He said one customer has to get his boat up to 8 mps before it will read right. Congratulations to all that have one that works. Mine doesn't. I can use everything on the unit but the speed so I'm going to keep it. That being said, I'm disapointed but done. BTW Ronnie Capps gave an hour and a half presentation at BPS/Memphis today. He did a good job. Good crowd with a lot of questions and answers.
