Default Terrova i-pilot Vs i-pilot link

Dumb question but I Just can't find the answer on the Minn Kota web site
I have a Terrova with i-pilot factory installed and am looking at several Humminbird GPS/Combo's
I realize I will need interconnection cables between the two

How does i-pilot Link fit into the picture when I have i-pilot in the motor already?
Do i-pilot and i-pilot link require different hardware to operate?

    Thanks for the help

What exactly do you mean when you say interconnection? If just hooking finder to motor with installed US2 transducer all you need is a Finder model specific adapter cable abut 35.00. If you are wanting to use finder and motor together for following break lines and tracks then you need the IPilot Link system( or in other words have the finder telling motor what to do.) and for that to work you would also need a card from Lakemaster that had your lake on it.

    Thanks for the response
Looking at interfacing a 798 ci hd si combo to the Minn Kota TM with integrated i-pilot
Understand there are cables and cards needed but trying to get my hands around what other hardware is needed
I do not expect the internal US2 to do side imaging - expect only simple sonar from that interface
Heard from other forums that the i-pilot and i-pilot link are completely different hardware so what I currently have will not function

    Is that indeed true?

if you have a us2 transducer built it , yes it will conect to your HB units. As cray said you will need a link system to hook up anything else

I believe that the link can be interfaced with your unit but not positive. One of the guys who really know should get on here before long and tell us. You could call Brian at BBGMarine who is a board sponsor and he can tell you for sure and just what you would need. I'm sure he also would have the Link as reasonable as anyone.

    iPilot is TM control...

iLink is TM talking to a HB unit...

Here is the list of HB units compatible with iLink...

    Replacing iPilot with Link...

(This is from the stock Terrova head to iLink...but the process should be the same)...

Sounds as if I would have to dump the i-pilot if I want to interface to the HB
Thinking I will keep them separated and use the i-pilot and HB as standalone units
Can't really justify another $800+ for the interface which might get me a few more way points
However if there were proper maps of my lakes it might be of interest
Too bad no maps available of the lakes I frequent here in the outback of Montana

    Thanks for the responses

The new Navionics Sonar Charts or the (soon to be released) LakeMaster AutoCharts will allow you to map your own lakes...
