    Default Humminbird 958 Problems

Mounted my new unit up front and am having problems with yellow screen and screen collapse. At times it appears to have multiple screens trying to show at once. Did get it to work for a few hours on the water still with yellow background and blinking in and out. Seemed to hold depth well but gps speed was up and down the scale. Just wondering has anyone esle had similar problem out of the box. I am running through usb2. Thanks.

Is your transducer pullged directly into the unit or are you running it through Ethernet to the front of the boat? I had a hell of a time getting rid of tm interference on my 597 up front and have pretty much researched every kind of sonar problem there is to try to get mine fixed. If you're running it through Ethernet I would try to hook ducer directly to unit and maybe try another transducer. Sounds like some kind of weird interference issue or software issue in unit. I've got the info. for our local hb rep. He's from liberty I think and knows his stuff. If you want his contact info, let me know. Call me sometime and I'll try to help ya get it worked out. I know how frustrating sonar problems can be. I'll pm ya my number bud.

Haven't had that trouble, however I am using the HB transducer not the us2.

    Sounds like possible power problems...

I would suggest having the battery load tested...

Check all connections for corrosion..especially at the fuse...

Is the unit wiring ran thru the boat wiring or on its own separate wires straight to the battery...??

Man! Thanks for all the responses. The unit does the same thing in simulator mode as it does when hooked to gps and usb2. Got it clear enough for a few minutes to look at on test screen and it is showing 12 volts. When it first fires up, even the Humminbird logo is yellow on the start up screen. The readouts can be seen moving from left to right through the craziness. I am running everything straight through the unit. No ethernet. Battery is three weeks old and connections behind dashboard look great. Did run an inline fuse even though ranger provides a fused terminal up front. Thanks again guys...

Do you know anyone else that has a HB unit that you can connect your head unit to their boat to test...??

It doesn't even have to be another same model...(just the power cord is enough for testing)...

I would Google "Unofficial Humminbird" There is an unofficial humminbird board that is pretty much run by Humminbird engineers. They will be better than most. Yellow screen sounds like a software glitch to me though. I'd ask them to be sure.

Well as we Rednecks say, "You ain't going to believe this stuff". Decided to try Rickie's idea and hook it up to the 998 at the wheel. Turned it on one last time and waited a while between start up and menu. The thing worked perfect. I have cut it off and turned it back on a dozen times and it is working great. We are going to have pretty cold temps tonight and i will try it in the morning. Go figure... Thanks and I will post the first trip to see if it works on the water.
