    Someone with way to much time on there hands. But I do like it. Greg would any cheep unit work or would have to have some with some power

    Any lower cost unit should work as long as you have some sort of manual control over it, like being able to select the depth range/scale.

    Years ago I tried that but then it would not work because it had to catch bottom first, so I slanted transducer to see a little bit in the direction the object was at and could tune in on it. They must have change the bottom reading to get a reading on DF but I thought mine new units still had to first read bottom before it gave me a pic. When I feel better I will test it even though I now have a798 and998 and some regular 2d sonars
