    Default Need help selecting new Depthfinder


    Looking to upgrade the depth finder on the bow of my boat. I have a Hummingbird 997 on the console which I am ok with. I am looking for something with DI and GPS and a good size screen. I love spider rigging and vertical fishing. I would appreciate any suggestions and help you can give me.

    Oh, so many variables....does 997 have ethernet? If yes, I would get a humminbird that also has ethernet and connect the two. That way all your waypoints will go from one to the other. Depends on your budget too. If I had the cash, I would buy the best there is.

    What is a “good size screen” to you?
    Humminbird makes DI model units in 5, 7, 8 and 10 inch display sizes. The 958c HD DI Combo model would be the same sized display as your 997 unit.

    My 1198 will be up for sale in 30 days it has about 150 hrs on it, I also have dual gps pucks and transducers. I also have 2 lake master cards one has Illinois and the other has has Indiana and Kentucky. I think they are 4.0, I'm at work now I will check when I get home. I also have the I pilot link that will be for sale. All bought from Brian at BBG Marine this spring.

    Thanks for your replies and yes I want to stay at least the same screen size as the 997. I want something with a good HD DI and GPS no need for side scan since I plan on mounting the transducer on the TM.
