Default Converting a foot controlled t/m to remote

My fishing buddy and I have been talking about a way to convert his cable operated trolling motor to work with a 12 volt motor to control direction. We are thinking about using a remote controlled reversible motor and mounting it under the deck with the shaft sticking thru the deck with a horizontal tee bar for each cable to fasten to. Any ideas ?

Buy a Terrova and be done, there's no sense trying to reinvent the wheel.

I have a Terrova with IPilot on my boat. We are just thinking "outside the box".

It could be done. Lot of calculations of motor speed and gear ratios for pulley size( length of arms if rigging a T for push/ pull) Engineering mounts and wiring, stop switches so it doesn't rotate to far. I don't know how to search it out but someone on here was building something similar to operate foot pedal a couple of years ago.

Wouldn't it be easier to rig something to work the foot pedal???

This could easily be rigged with an electric worm drive out of an electric seat mechanism from a vehicle...

Just need to figure out the 12v remote control with dual direction activation...

Or spend less and buy a new trolling motor.
Crappie bite twice a day. 15 minutes before I get there and 10 minutes after I leave.

Blacklandlure did something similar awhile ago. Out there somewhere is some pics of his drive system which consisted of a drive motor with some kind of disk and friction linkage. Here is a post that he put up on the control part of the unit. Some smart peoples out there...
