    Default I-Pilot Use

Hey all for what it's worth I found a new use for my I-pilot the other day as I'm always looking for ways to use it differently. I'm trolling along with a rattletrap for craps and get hung on a stump. Wind is blowing enough to put small whitecaps on the lake. I try to retrive the lure with my lure retriever but since I'm by myself it's just impossible to hold the boat in the wind and get the lure retriever down at the same time without some help. So I position the boat just downwind and the lure directly down from the back 1/3 of the boat and hit the spot lock/anchor. It worked great. Took a couple of minutes waiting for the spot lock to get back to where I locked it at but was worth the time saving the lure. Man I love that I-pilot.

Yea it takes a little bit CrapNight. Throw a couple jigs on a rod and start moving around and playing with it. Won't take long and you'll wonder how you ever fished successfully without it. Good luck!

I've been looking at I pilot what is the difference between the regular i pilot and the ipilot link? My understanding is that the regular ipilot doesn't use GPS? And link uses your humminbird GPS or am I looking at this wrong? I guess my main question with it is this: on the regular ipilot when the speed on your remote says, just throwing a number out there, 1.3 are you really going that speed if we're going into the wind or against it?

In a nutshell, the ilink connects to your hummingbird unit allowing you to mark different way points and have the motor run the track between them. The ipilot does have GPS so your speed should be pretty accurate. Now if you troll and use autopilot, you have the option to use advanced ap or standard. The advanced uses GPS to keep your heading while the standard uses a compass. I think most will tell you the standard ap works better. The advanced ap makes too many corrections trying to keep you on line. Hope that helps.

That does help out and I don't mean to steal the thread but does the standard ipilot connect to your humminbird or is the GPS integral in the ipilot head?

Thanks for the info. I watched videos about it and no one explained the nuts and bolts parts of it. At least out of the ones I had found
