to test the distance, the remote will work. keep the boat near the bank 25 feet or so, and walk back up the ramp or bank away from your boat, while stopping and checking to see if it still works. when you go far enough to be out of range, then you don't have to swim to get the boat. just walk back down to the ramp or bank and your back in range. I fish alone most of the time, and the anchor feature does work. for holding your boat away from the bank. while you go park the truck.
