    Default new 998 unit problem

Here is a picture my friend Vic is having with his new 998. No matter what he has tried he cannot get rid of the "extra" line on the left hand side of his display in the water column. He has raised and lowered his transducer, raised his big motor, removed his other fish finder transducer, ran direct power line to a separate battery and more. Any ideas? All help appreciated.
    Thanks,

It looks like the left side of the SI beam is being partially blocked by something to the left of the Xducer...

Either a drain screen, another Xducer, a jack plate, ladder...etc

Post pics of the back of the boat (from the rear and from both sides)...

good news here.............. sure looks like its only something blocking the left side view. unmount it from the boat and tape it to a broom handle and stick it down in the water deeper to verify . good luck and report back the results

It does not look like the transducer is setting level. It looks as though it is too low at the back. The transducer should be level when sitting on the water.

heck yers. tape it to a broom handle and stick it down in the water deeper to verify .

You should call the vendor, and take the advice they give. I'm sure they won't mention broom handles. LOL

I'm guessing the left SI beam is hitting the Xducer on the other side of the transom...

Like the other guys said....temporarily mount the HDSI Xducer to a broom handle and stick it farther down into the water to verify....

It's important to remember that the SI beam comes out of the sides of the HDSI Xducer at 90° ..

Also it's important to remember that sonar beams do not stop at the advertised beam angles...the sonar pulse kinda "feathers out" even farther than the beam angle as the beam progresses...

So while the "advertised" beam angle may say ~90° out each side... There are still echos that can be picked up at 91°, 92°, 93°,...etc (depending on how big the target is and how close it is)...(your other Xducer just could be "big enough" and "close enough" for example)...

Sonar is a sound pulse with ever-decreasing strength...not a laser with definitive beam edges ...

Rickie, the TD on the left has been removed & Vic has tried the moving of the 998 TD to several different locations with the same results.

Was the 2d Xducer mounting plate removed also or just the puck...??

The broom handle trick will tell us for sure if the problem is blockage or some other issue...

The image with the line that close to the center line and only on one side "generally" indicates blockage of some sort...
