Default DI on trolling motor. Need advice

Hey guys, hope everyone spent the day playing with their new Christmas toys...
Finishing rigging out my new boat and need some input.
I'm running a 998c SI at console, but need to put something on tm still. I was getting ready to pull the trigger on a 858ci HD DI, ram mount, transom shield and saver, and a 20 foot Ethernet cable but wanting some reassurance before I drop the $$$. Do you guys have good luck with the DI exclusive units? The places I spend 95% of my time are 15-20 feet deep max, and a lot of it is 12 foot or less. Will this unit do much for me in the shallower water? Got the money, don't want to go any bigger just for the sake of room up front. I do want to be able to share waypoints. One other question, will a hd unit and a non hd unit share any sonar readings at all, or just waypoints. Thanks. Sorry for the long windedness.

I run di units only and fish mostly shallow (this year at least) and they work great. you will have to play with your settings to get it dialed in but it will work fine for you. your map card will do more for you then dial in on your spot with the di and mark it--imo.

So am I right in that the only info that can be shared between these two units are waypoints?

The 998c SI will share 2d and waypoints with the 858ci HD DI...both units will need the latest Ethernet compatible software version....

They will not share SI or DI because the DI technology in the 2 are not the same technology...(each require different circuitry)..

They will not share mapping...each unit requires it's own chip....(Navionics way of getting your $$...)

The "HD" moniker in the 800 and 900 series SI units only indicate new LED backlight screen for easier viewing in sunlight...

You will not be able to share any sonar data between a DI and non-DI unit. The 2D sonar in the DI units is too different for most other units to be able to utilize it.

The area covered by the 858c HD DI unit will be:

    2D (conventional) sonar:
    16 degrees at 455kHz, area covered = 0.28 X water depth
    25 degrees at 200kHz, area covered = 0.44 X water depth

    DI sonar:
    45 degrees at 800kHz, area covered = 0.83 X water depth
    75 degrees at 455kHz, area covered = 1.53 X water depth

Stickman, this past year I've ran both the 858c Di and the 1158c Di and both performed well in water as shallow as 4-5 feet. These Di units work really well on the trolling motor as I was able to get decent imaging as slow as .6 mph

Thanks guys. Ordered the 858c hd DI from Brian at shut up and fish. He was helpful and great prices on unit and accessories. After I thought it over, I figured I wouldn't ever really need to see 2d from rear transducer at front of boat and I won't have tm deployed when I'm at console, so sharing sonar would be pretty worthless. Not sure how much gain I'll get out of DI, but cheaper to buy it from the start than decide I want it after buying one without. And Brian's prices made that decision even easier. Now I just hope the 20 foot Ethernet cable is long enough...
