Panman_VA (bless his soul) may have discovered a solution to this problem--see this thread.

What size boat do you have? I have an 1860 and my 80lb Terrova will do right at 3.0.

I have an 80 lb. Terrova on a 16' full V. On fully-charged batteries, top end is about 3.5 w/o wind or current. On the lowest setting it doesn't hold the boat up to a light breeze. If it's slick calm, maybe it'll do .2 or .3 on the lowest setting.

Its an 19foot Lowe Stinger Just seems to have a very strong trolling motor. Wondered if it has the right prop, but its the one that came on it new.

So, does the trolling motor have an infinetly adjustable speed or does it have set speeds (like 4 or 5 settings only)? I used to have a foot control with 4 speeds that would run way too fast on low. I trimmed the diameter of the prop down.

My motor guide brute 67 12/24v would push mine 1.4 on 1 on 24 volt. Almost 1 on 12

I had a 24v 70# Motorguide 5 speed. I had the same problem with it, it was just too fast. I had it on a 17' 6" tracker deep-v and it's a fairly heavy boat. I hated that thing.
My solution... I sold it and bought a new TM. I didn't want to spend the extra money but I enjoy fishing too much to want to send my time fighting with the wrong TM.
I got to say, I have no regrets.
