Default Hummingbird 998 link to what...help

Hey guys. Ordered a new boat, and I ordered a 998 at the console. Wondering which hummingbird I can mount up front on tm and link to the 998 to share way points. Kinda broke the bank with the new boat, so not looking to put a 998 up front and I'm not worried about seeing my si or di at the bow. Just want to use a tm mount transducer for unit, but be able to share waypoints. And I'd like to have color, but would give up color for a bigger screen. Any suggestions? And what all will I need to link the units.
Side note--I did order it with a power pole sportsman II on it. I'll give my review when I pick up my boat and get a chance to try it out. Thanks.

You'll have to go with a 700 HD, 800, 900, or 1100 series unit to be able to link via Ethernet. I've got the 788 HD Di. Wish I had went with the bigger 858c DI for a couple of hundred dollars more. You will have to have the Ethernet Cable with all units, & the Ethernet adapter for the 700's.

Wiskers is right here Stickman. You will have to look at the “HD” 700 series units, the 800 series units or larger display units. The least expensive will be the 700 HD series units. You stated that you did not want Si or DI sonar at the bow, so you should look at the 778c HD or 788ci HD Combo units. Both are color (we have no monochrome units that can be Ethernet connected) and the only difference between them is that the 788ci HD has a built-in GPS Receiver, mapping capability and the extra GPS related buttons. The 788c HD can share waypoints but does not have the extra buttons that the 788ci HD does so everything has to be done through the menu system (extra button presses).

To connect up either the 778c HD or 788ci HD units you will have to buy an extra AS-EC-QDE Ethernet adapter cable: AS EC QDE

You will also need one of the AS-ECXXE Ethernet connection cables. The are several different lengths available so the “XX” is is replaced by the length of the cable:

Thanks for the help. If I go with the 788ci HD DI, will the DI come from the 998 transducer or tm transducer? Which tm transducer do I meet to get for the 788?

    Stickman,
The 788ci HD Di model cannot share sonar data with the 998c Si unit. They use two different forms of Down Imaging sonar. So the sonar data for the 788ci HD DI will come from its own transducer. If you want to mount the DI transducer on the trolling motor you need to exchange the one in that comes with the unit for an XTM-9-DI-25-T model transducer. XTM 9 DI 25 T
The folks at Humminbird can help you with that (1-800-633-1468). The 788ci HD Di unit can still share waypoint data with the 998c Si unit.

If you went with the 788ci HD unit it can share the 2D sonar (200kHz/83kHz) with the 998c Si unit along with the waypoint data.

So does this work with a 798c no HD for Ethernet connectivity?

No, the non-HD 798 units cannot be Ethernet connected. They do not have a connection nor the internal electronics to support this. Only those with the “HD” designation can be Ethernet connected.
