Rickie, they sent me a new transducer and rework the unit but it still did it, so they sent me a new head and I went to the lake Friday, only had a little while to try it. It did well ,but did it a little bit on the right side in one place on the lake but not bad enough to bother me much. Thanks for asking. Is it normal for it to once in a while to clutter just on right side? One more question is I fish on the front and after I locate fish ,should I leave it on or cut it off, because some of the guys for some reason turns their's off while fishing. Thanks and Tuesday I hope to check it out good and will let you know

Try to capture a screenshot the next time the clutter shows up...it could be bubbles...or bait...or TM interference...

Now the other ???... Some guys feel that the audible pings sent out from the xducer spooks fish....so they turn their unit off after they locate fish...everyone has their own opinion about this, but I have yet to see documented evidence that this is the case...so that's up to you...

Rickie, I went to the lake and tried it. It in certain areas in the lake ,did bad on right side, can cut motor off and do it. When the bank is on right side even over 100 feet away ,it do it worst. Can hold transducer over side of boat and still do it. By this being the second new unit, somehow it must be in my wireing, this is all thats left, but don't see how could only effect just the right side but I am going to rewire it just to see. Will let you know how it goes in a few days. Could not seen pic because my knowledge of posting pic is gone to town now, LOL

If I'm understanding this right... HB sent you a new unit and a new xducer...?? And you even tried sticking the new xducer over the side of the boat...??

    Something is still amiss here...

In your original post (Fishing electronics and trolling motors - Page 3 )you mentioned having a friend that had a unit you could try swapping for testing... Did that test pan out...??

Rickie, yes a new unit and a new transducer and I hang the transducer over boat. I did in April try unit on friends boat and did better still did it and put his unit on my boat and only did it a little. I check my wireing and it and my 2D are wired straight to battery. In a few days I will put a battery that only to that unit and not to big motor even though I cut engine and 2D unit off and tried it setting still. Out of idears. Will let you know next week. To me it don't make sense.

Well I put another battery in the boat just for the 798 and it did better. It cut the clutter back about 40 - 50% but still do it some and a lot near bridges, LEFT SIDE ALWAYS DO FINE. Still can cut every thing off but 798 and setting still in some places still do it,can turn boat around and right side of screen will still clutter. The only thing that has not been change is the wireing harness to unit, is it possible to be bad ? With this battery just for 798 ,its like its separate from boat now. Do not know anything else to do. The bridge open is over 300 feet wide and they were not pulling water and besides the left side does fine.

Have you already mounted the new xducer in the same spot on the transom as the original one...??

Is the replacement xducer HB sent also the "Compact HDSI"...??

yes I put the new transducer on but have not sent other one back so I can hang it over boat, still expermenting, theydid not say to send it back ,but if they do I will send it back after expermenting and find my problem. Do you think the power hookup could be the problem, if so if they do not cost too much I will order one. I already had it wired straight to big motor battery and I don't want to have to carry another battery with me all the time, so what can I do about that? In the last of Sept I will be camping with a friend that has a 798 ,if not fix by then will switch units his on mine and mine on his as we done in April. Still don't know what that will tell me. Oh, I tried the other transducer hanging over boat and turn it around to see if clutter would go away while setting still and if the right side was aiming toward bank it would sometimes go away,I could turn boat in opposite direction and when you turn transducer where right side was shooting to bank it will do it again. At a bridge in deep water with no current it will do it any way you turn the transducer but the left side will be clear. Boy

The power hookup should not be the problem or it would show up in both the right and left Si sonar and should go away when all other electrical devices are shut off.

Not sure what is going on here as a new unit and/or new transducer should have fixed this.
