Default LIVEWELL PUMP AND BILGE pump question

I bought a used boat and didnt check eveything out, when I got out on the water I could not get the live well to fill although the pump was running.,
When I got home, I took the pump apart, which direction should the pump run, counter clockwise or clockwise, my runs counterclock wise and just looking at it, it doesnt seem right.. I checked the bilge pump, it was the same, I reversed the polarity and the livewell pump ran clockwise, the bilge pump would not run at all.

I have taken my bus bar apart and did not find any loose wires..

    any ideas??

    Thanks

Jaxxman, I took mine apart and it does look like it it would work better clockwise.I called the manufacturer and was told it runs counter clockwise. Check the hoses they may have a kink or a loose connection.Try putting the outboard in reverse to see if this will prime the pump. I have to do this with my boat or fill it after pushing off from the bank when I first start fishing. After running up the pond I have, to reverse the outboard to prime the pump.My boat manual states this as a trouble remedy.....I hope this helps.

maybe you're plumbed backwards or you're clogged up somewhere.

Not sure what kinda boat you have but the pic below should give you the basics on how it should be plumbed. The intake from the rear to the pump should be at a slight upward angle and as well the line going to the livewell from the pump should not have a dip below the pump outlet (slight upward is the best) hope this helps

Thanks' I believe that is whats wrong, my outlet goes down and under, from what i read that might cause an air lock..I am going to try the "boat in reverse" option and see if that works.. if not I may have to dig in and add a piece of hose so I can cure the air lock. I hope the reverse option works, it willbe a tough job to rearrannge the pump and hoses.. I dont have the room that you show in the pic.
    Thanks again..

yep--always a possibility of trash clogging things up. But if the back up thing works then I would say the issue is with the plumbing--which other than the work space is an easy fix--just get any dips out of the lines and should work great (unless the pump is bad ) Good luck.

Yep, no trash fuirst thing i checked for, had a dirt dabber build a nest in my motors water pump line.now I always look for that.. a good thing my intake has one of those screens on it.. but I poured water through each hose and the water ran through fine.. hoep the reverse thing works, will try in the morning...;-).
