Thread: What pound thrust?

I would look for a deal on a 70 if I were you. The 55 might struggle a tad in the wind. I think Grizzlyjig sells some reconditioned(not sure) and can get a good deal that way.

I have a 55 on my tracker targa 18. Last Saturday the wind on lake george was 20 to 25 or higher and still trolled into the wind at 1.4. It might be hard on the batteries, but thats why i have dual batteries.

If u are not pulling cranks a 55lb will do fine. I have an 1860 F&F and recently upgraded to an 80lb but never ran down the batteries on the 55lb unless we were pulling cranks and the battery would usually last 4 hours running bout 1.7.

My son has a 17' tracker with a 55# trust. He says it's plenty on his boat. He doesnt want to fish when the wind gets up above 15 mph though.

I run a 55# thrust as well on my 17' Tracker. Haven't had any problems in the past three years.

I am sure a 55 will do good but its always windy in Kansas and I wanna be able to get around good. I am thinking minnkota. Is there a model that is prefered amoungest cdc? Thanks for the fellas! Clay

After being underpowered in a previous boat, I usually go a little bigger than what I can "get by" with. My 70lb auto pilot PD-V2 does a great job and holds speed in any wind. Mine is a 17'8" fiberglass bass boat and I don't have to go home early any more. Winter days in a steady 15mph wind isn't an issue any more, I catch fish while others head for the ramp.
