Depends on how your boat is wired. You only need one.

    Default My Motorguide issue

I had an issue with my motorguide TM this spring. I have a Lowe ST17. The motor worked fine for 1 year and one day it just quits. The fuse was encased in some shrink tube and hot glue near the battery. There was no real way to check it so I had to cut it out. I put a 50 amp circuit breaker in place. Next trip the circuit breaker trips and i can't get it to reset. So I started tearing things apart. Where my problem ended up being was in the splice that connects the TM to the plug. It is under the first shrink tube as you go from the plug to the motor. There were two butt connections in that shrink tube that were not staggered. There was a little exposure of wire one one side of both wires and somehow that short became an issue after 1 year.

So you can cut that shrink tube and look at how your connection seems. If it is okay, you can use liquid tape. or you can re-splice it and make sure the two connections are staggered. I have not had any problems since.
