The whole clockwise – counterclockwise rotation really only comes into play when you are talking about an inboard motor and prop. If you have an outboard motor the propeller is already behind the transducer so the direction it rotates does not matter unless you are backtrolling with that same motor. As long as you are using the sonar unit while moving forwards with an outboard motor you can mount it on either side of the motor. Most mount it on the starboard side so they do not have to run the transducer cable around the motor and it is also a few feet shorter from there to the unit on the console (transducer cable is only 20 feet long).
