New Update?

I registered my 798 humminbird yesterday and the website had an software update posted. It was something like 5.2......and another number. It listed contour additions. I checked my unit today and it has update 5.450. Is this the newest one or an older update. Higher number mean newer update? just need to know if im current.CF

I think you have the newest version at 5.450. That's whats in both of mine currently. Generally the higher the number the newer the version.

Thanks YD, Yeah I kinda figured that on the numbers but wasn't for sure. I know the 5.450 already had what the other update was talking about but the 5.450 was not listed in updates so I wonder why they are posting an older update? that is confusing to new owners. They may end up changing to an older update.CF

If you have a 798 unit (any version), the latest software update should be 5.840
This is what should be showing when you log into your account on the Humminbird website.

The higher the number, the newer the version.

Checked back today and that is the version being shown now. Don't know what the deal was when I first logged in. It has changed to the 5.840. Now just got to finish installing the unit and then update the software. What is the update for? Thanks HBG.CF

The 5.840 software added the Waypoint Management software.

I just bought a 788ci combo yesterday and just finished putting on my boat I dony have a sd card yet can I just use it as is or do I need to get 1 and start checking for updates... Thanks and Tight Lines ,Take a Kid Fishing

Sure you can start using your new 788ci unit right out of the box. It just may not have some of the features and functions that other unit have is all. Send me the serial number or current software version from your 788ci unit and I should be able to tell you what the latest software update will give you (my email addy is shown below).

The unit will work fine with the pre-installed software version...

Newer software versions (that may have come out since your unit was manufactured) are just added bells and whistles...
