I was in the same boat as you and bought a new Minn KOta 80# single for my 17' glass boat. The speed was more than adequate but the steering response was awful. I ended up turning on the TM on the big motor and deploying my bow mount to steer. Having the pivot point at the back of the boat for low speed turns was not a "nifty upgrade" like I thought I was. I ended up eating about $300 when I sold it on eBay. I would definately advise you to get on the water with someone who has one on their boat and feel it out before you drop that kind of change on a motor that you are still going to have to use your bow mount to steer when pulling cranks. You may ending up loving it if you can fish a long straight track on your home lake, just giving you my experience with the unit. I now have a Terrova 80 with iPilot and wouldn't have it any other way for pulling/trolling.

The iP's cruise control, track record/playback, and autopilot is a dream come true for trolling.

i've got an 80lber on my 861 predator. mainly use it for coming and going and loading. i fish with my bow mount. as to the speed part of it; i wish it were faster. good luck.

If a guy was going to rig most of the time, that thing looks deadly. and it has the spot lock too right? That would be a nice feature for you too warbird, if you are going to primarily fish LOZ. The only bad thing I've heard about this setup is if you fish Truman, or other stumpy lakes, it's not as responsive as cable steer. There are people though, that buy both and switch based on the lake they are fishing, might work out to be the same price for you....
