Seems that as long as you know how to interpret the image, movement isn't a requirement.

There is certainly a few folks that would have you believe that DI will only work if you're moving, or is useless unless you are moving. The image below, is from a short trip to a local lake today. My speed is 0.0mph, and as long as I see the horizontal lines on my screen (crappie), I know I'm in the right place. Dropped a rig down to the bottom, up a couple cranks and wait. They were slamming it. The fish were suspended from the bottom up 5ft, and there was about a 10ft wide patch of them. Once you drifted outside the patch, the screen was blank.
2d sonar, would not have shown anything close to this.

What makes you say that 2d wont do that? I can remember when i had my eagle 480 seeing the same thing that you're talking about. When i'd anchor, all i'd be looking at was lines under the boat. As the screen scrolled, the fish always looked like straight lines. Cant say it showed them exactly like your shot as DI wasn't around then.

That shot is very similar. That probably wasn't the best choice in wording, and maybe sitting still is when they are closest in the right scenario. There was a lot of clutter that you aren't seeing in the DI on my image, (that did show on the 2d) I should have taken a screen shot of the split screen instead of NAV/DI

Even when proven wrong, you just wont admit it, huh? Anyway... glad i didn't need lss-1 to show me that old shot from over 4 years ago.![]()
LOL. I looked at my 2d today, which is why I said it the way I did. I wasn't making the statement about all 2d units in the history of the world. I will try to be more specific in the future.![]()
If you had HB 360 they would look like fish...Rofl
Not bashing, it was a joke, hence the laughing emoticon.
