998 map question
have just started using the nav. features on unit. notice there are no contour lines or lake outlines on any lakes. bought the premium card, thinking my lakes just weren't covered in the preload. still nothing. couple of buds said to check chart select and see what my setting are. i checked and don't even have that option on my unit. have i got something turned off or did i just get ripped off and don't have the mapping features. thanks.

when i go to chart and i'm on advanced user mode, hit menu twice, scroll down i do not have a chart select option on the dropdown menu.

I don't thing Advanced User Mode matters, but I keep mine at that setting also.
OK. let's make sure we got the order right.
You are hitting Menu, Menu. Scrolling to Chart, then scrolling down and you do NOT seeing Chart Select? At Chart Select, depending on your setup, should be Auto, Contour XD, Left Chart, Right Chart.

Simpleman I think you may be confusing the chart "xpress" menu with the "chart tab" in the main menu system...
When you have an active chart view showing on the screen... 1 menu click brings up the chart "xpress" menu where there will be no option for "chart select"...
You must go into the unit's "main menu" system to get to this option...
With any view showing on the screen....hit "menu" twice to get into the unit's main menu tabbed layout..
Then follow Stymie's directions above to get into the "chart tab" to find the "chart select" option...
Keep us updated if this may be the issue.... We will help you figure it out...

that is correct sir. i have no chart select to put on auto, or anything else.. did they sale a 998 without the preloaded contour xd maps? i feel real stupid for not finding this out sooner, but the folks i've ask about it just said i have something turned off. haven't had the need for any navigation, as far as maps, since i bought the thing so i figured i'd tend to it when the time came. well the time has come and...........no maps.Originally Posted by Stymie

Simpleman.. Is it possible for you to open the "chart tab" (in the main menu system) and take a snapshot of the open menu...??
Insert a SD card in either slot..
Go into the "main menu" system by hitting the "menu" button on the unit twice...
Turn on the "screenshot" under the last tab on the right...
Scroll back to the "chart tab"...
Hit the "Mark" button on the front of the unit...
Remove SD card from unit...
Upload "screenshot" from SD card into this thread...
Maybe a visual reference will help us diagnose your issue...

problem solved. call humminbird. in 5 minutes they figured out that i did not have the mapping software. sent me a download and here in the carport, on simulator, i got maps, chart select, and a full load of options on my menu. i like that. thanks for the help folks. got to love good customer service.
