im getting to purchase a hb 997. and am in need of a mounting bracket and a ram mount. what 1 do you guys recommend? i am mounting it on the topside of the compartment along the side of my boat. so ther will be no need for a 90 degree arm. i would be happy with just the mounting bracket but want it to swivel. does anybody have any suggestions?
the standard Humminbird GM2 and ram mountRAM-D-111U should do ya.
that ram is kinda pricy. is there another 1 that would work? perhaps the ram b 111u or the ram b 107u? they are half the priice. and most reviews said they work. anybody got any info about this?
I have 2 of the 997's. I would buy the biggest ram mount you can afford. I bought the one recommended by Cabelas when i bought my first unit. These are heavy units and if you skimp on the mount it will not hold it up while traveling or in any wind. In my opinion do not skimp on the ram mount size or you will be un happy later. You will find you really need to crank that handle down tight or the unit falls forward and pulls on the cords or pulls them out.Hope that helps.
yea you could get a smaller and less expensive mount, but like team sharps say, it might not work as well as this units are heavy. you got a 1500 dollar (or more) unit and I wouldnt think you wanted a lower priced ram mount be the reason that it got brokeof course its your choice, we are just tryin to help
here is a link if you need it and it is the best price that I have found (81.50 free shipping)

I hate to say it but I am not familiar with the GM2 you speak of

The GM2 is the one humminbird ships with the unit. As for the ram mount, the D kits have the 2.5" rubber balls vs. the B kits with 1" ball. The B kits don't work as well with heavy screens.
