Built in UniMap? Help Please

When humminbird advertises a Sonar/GPS with built in UniMap what exactly does this mean? Does this Unimap have lake information, Contour Lines? Or would I have to buy a Navionics card for contour lines? Is the Navionics just an Upgraded version? Help please, I am confused!! Thanks

Unimap is the older HB Navionics base map that was preloaded into the GPS/chartplotter units...it was basic lake outlines...(after all, Navionics wants you buy their better cards so they're not going to give away a very good map for the "base map" in the unit)

I'm not even sure if the channels were marked on the Unimap base map....maybe just the shorelines....

Sometime in 2010 HB changed the base map to Contour XD...it is a Navionics map that has some contour lines on these lakes....http://store.humminbird.cust.shopatr...apLakeList.pdf ....lakes not listed still had basic outlines..(I think)..

I think you would still want to buy a Navionics card (from http://www.navionics.com/) for your area to get the best contour detail and chart info...

If that unit is advertising Unimap..it is an early 2010 or older model...
