    Default Are we getting rooked?

I would like a depthfinder with SI, DI,and 2D WITHOUT the gps.I don't believe its availiable.... Why???? Looks like Humminbird and Lowran are forcing Gps on us whether we like it or not. Am I missing something or is Gps that great . I can't see the advantages. Maybe you guys can straighten me out. THanks for any comments.

IMO, SS would be close to useless without GPS. How would you know where something was?

I can't even imagine fishing without 2 GPS units in the boat anymore. I'd expect the SI may use the GPS to put the picture together. It would be like walking around in the dark trying to find something you saw on SS if you couldn't mark a waypoint and go to it.

I bet the units without GPS wouldn't sale. If you're going to buy a unit with all those other features why not GPS? Kind of like a 4 cyl. Corvette. Just doesn't make sense to build it.

a 2d depth finder without GPS is what you are after. Like Catfan said, it would be pointless, and a complete waste of money. I'd probably give up everything else, just to have GPS.

in the old days we would find brush or lay downs plum by accident, then tell a friend, mark a tree on one bank, another waypoint on another bank and line them up and try to find them at a later time.. Today your friend is an electronic device,,, make it a close friend and treat it well, it will serve you well and not ask much in return,,,,

Yes, GPS is that great. Simply put, it gives you the ability to return to the objects that you found with your SI/DI. No need to try to remember where your spots are and hope you can find them again.

Gps is one thing that if you ever use it, you'll have to have one. Besides showing the creek and river channel's, you will eventually stay out too long, or something happens to keep you after dark, they are worth their weight. I have left out early, and as soon as I leave bank the fog sets in. Punch a couple of buttons and find yesterdays log, and follow it to honey hole. Really good in a stumpy lake where you have been once before, and can follow your old route. Wouldn't do without mine. Handier than pockets on a shirt.

I cant imagine how we ever fished all the years with out the gps. This is one example. We have a few stumps on a flat in the middle of the lake. In my boat we can be on them in a few seconds. My cousin does not have gps but has been with me on this spot many times and thought he had it triangulated perfect. He spent 2 hours looking for the stumps out of his boat and never did find them. Do you really want to risk finding a gold mine and not be able to get back on it? Get the gps, you will be glad you did.
