Just remember that some units don't work when they are that close to the head unit, so check first before you mount.

The easiest way is to mount it under the top cap on a glass boat. Works fine, is out of the way and no holes needed.

Actually on mine Tommy its a piece of aluminum tubing with a plate welded to the top that the puck bolts to.

Yes that's for sure but as long as he has it raised so unit is not blocking signal all should work fine......

I am gonna mount it on back of boat with it raised. I am planning on documenting the install with a new thread with pics. This was last few pieces to have all ready to go. Thanks for all input, I do appreciate it. With this much of investment I want to do it right.

The problem isn't blocking the signal. It's RF interference between the head and the GPS receiver, so even an elevated puck could have issues.

What about the internal Gps units? You cant get any closer than that.

Mine is mounted about 18" ABOVE my 2d transducer. Sometime this winter I plan to move the SI/DI transducer to within a foot of the 2d. I did not want my external antenna mounted on a pole so I couldn't bump anything into it. It sits on top of my back deck close to the corner of the boat. By having the antenna sitting right above the transducer, I have a little more accuracy when sitting over a saved waypoint.
