Targeting jumbo perch through the ice with the Humminbird 385ci
Jumbo perch are the preferred targets of many ice anglers across the Northland. In addition to providing great sport and excellent table fare, the propensity of jumbo perch to travel in schools of like-sized fish means that anglers can often expect to catch jumbo...after jumbo...after jumbo, once they locate an active school of yellow-sided tigers. As is the case for many species targeted though the ice, angler mobility is the key to success in hard-water jumbo perch fishing. Anglers who spend the day huddled within a shelter can certainly catch an above-average perch every now and then, as pods of jumbos drift beneath their shanties; however, mobile anglers who venture out in search of those wandering schools of jumbos will invariably catch more. Supporting this mode of ice fishing is one of the most significant strengths of the Humminbird 385ci: a portable, lightweight unit that provides GPS position, LakeMaster cartography, and multi-mode sonar data for the mobile ice angler. Check out this article for more information on how I use the Humminbird 385ci to target winter jumbos:
