That is what I did this past spring. Wish they would have had the 858c with DI back then. I may sell the ones I have and get a 858cdi and 898csi. SI at console and di at T/M. Best of both worlds. Ethernet to share DI from both tranducers and waypoints.

Sorry about the hijack. I know the 800's are not under $700. I would recommend getting the larger screen if you can save up a little while longer. The larger screens are way better than any of the 700 or 500 series HB I have used.

A couple of things to consider here guys:

    1. The 500 series units cannot be Ethernet connected to any other units as they do not have the Ethernet connector on them nor the circuitry and programming for this. They are stand alone units only. You have to move up to a 700 or larger series units to be able to Ethernet connect them and share any data – and not all of the 700 series units have this capability.

    2. Even though the 858c DI (also the 788ci HD DI, 958c DI and 1198c DI) units have the Ethernet connector; they cannot at this time share the DI sonar with a non-DI model unit. The Side Imaging units that have Ethernet capability (798ci HD Si, 898c Si, 998c Si, 1197c Si and 1198c Si) have a different Di sonar and cannot use the DI sonar from the DI model units (788ci HD DI, 858c DI, 958c DI and 1198c DI).

For about $700 you should be able to get a 788ci HD or 788ci HD DI model unit and add the Ethernet connection later (if you want to); otherwise you could go with the 597ci HD DI model already mentioned and keep some of that money.

    Gator,
I would need to know your name and address to check on your 787c unit. Send me a direct e-mail with this info or just call the Humminbird Customer Resource folks at 1-800-633-1468 and check on it.

I may be wrong, but I don't think the 587 series has DI...so it is about $100 less

I've been doing some research along these same lines and prices....it appears that the 597ci HD DI is a pretty good unit for the money. Altho it may be that what I'm looking for is different from what you want. I need the GPS capability, the ability to mark wp's and tracks, and I want to have the DI...can't afford to go with multiple units at this time, so the "quick disconnect" appeals to me, also.

Is the interference issue only with the 597? Is it with all Humminbirds, or is it with all sonars on digital TM's? And which TM's are considered digital? Is there a fix?
