Does anyone know why this is not working even though I have selected "Navionics" and "Lowrance and there is zero difference between the two???
So is it the map file I downloaded? Really frustrated with this. Anyone have an idea? I'm about to co tact Lowrance and see if they can help but wanted to see if anyone else already had a solution.

I'm still hoping for an answer to this issue as well. Same deal, 1 particular lake that I want the enhancements for. Downloaded, placed on a 2gb card but no difference on the E5 charts and there seems to be no way to tell the unit to load or read the enhanced map file.

So I called Lowrance. The tech support was unaware of the website where I got the enhanced maps. Turns out, they are OLD maps and that's why they do not show up in the list. I only see "LOWRANCE" and "NAVIONICS" as options. This explains why I don't see a difference between the maps from one or the other. This myth has been "BUSTED". The link to the enhanced maps is not worth our time for this model. I wish I had better news as I only need/want an enhanced map for one lake. Not an entire region. I think Navionics should offer a deal like that. I think they would sell more product.

Downloads | Lowrance This is the link to the old enhanced maps. Look to the bottom of the page for a list of compatible older units. You WILL NOT find any Elite or HDS units there.

To the contrary; "...and all 2006 or newer GPS products with MMC/SD memory card capabilities". Appreciate you finding out the official answer on this one. I'm still curious how much more detail, if any, these alleged enhanced maps might contain. Will have to see if there's a way to view them or convert them.

Here's how I did mine ... sitting on my couch, with the unit connected to a 12V portable jumper battery via an extra power/tdx cable (but, you can still use the same method sitting in the boat) :

(copied from a previous post in this thread)
"As an additional note, in case one of you E5DSI owners gets someone to give up some of their super secret GPS coordinates, and you want to manually put them into your unit (before you even go to the lake) ... here's how :

    Click Menu button
    Arrow down to New Waypoint
    Click Enter button
Use Up arrow to highlight Lat/Long numbers line
    Click Enter button
Use up/down arrows to change coord numbers - R/L arrows to move to next number & from Latitude to Longitude box
Click Enter button when correct Lat/Long numbers are entered
Use Down Arrow to highlight SAVE
    Click Enter button
    ************************************************** *

I did close to 100 waypoints using this method. BUT, I first had to write down all of them, on paper, as I converted them online using the converter link. I probably have a couple of hours of actual "manual work" involved in converting & putting the 100 waypoints into my unit ... but, that's a far cry from the time & expense that would have been involved in doing so "on the water".

Also, as I wrote down the GPS coords from the converter ... I grouped them into areas of the lake & type of cover (brush, pallets, stakebed). So, not only do I have written backup, in case I should lose my coords from my unit (for whatever reason), but I also know what type of cover is present at each coord. Should I want to do so, or the need arises, I could change the coordinate "names" from 001, 002, etc ... to Brush 1, Stakebed 3, Pallet stack 14, or whatever.

    ... cp

I have an emergency question. I just bought this for my kayak to help calculate travel time overall and time to next check point, is there a way to do that. I didn't think of it before, but last night questions running in my head brought this up.

    1. Is there a distance/time travel log that tracks along as you go down river?
    2. Can this be reset?
The best way to get to where you want to be in the future is to act like you are there TODAY.

So, I’ve got another couple of questions for you guys…

First, are any of you using your E5 DSI with a Navionics Gold chip that came bundled with the unit? Mine came from Lowrance with the Navionics Gold charts included on a chip marked as MSD/NEB-2. This bundled chip is apparently similar, but not identical to the Gold charts you can buy directly from Navionics.

Second, if you do have the bundled Gold chip, have you been able to download updates to those charts from the Navionics Webstore?

Now here’s the reason behind my questions. About three weeks ago when I first brought home my Elite 5 DSI, I attempted to update the bundled Navionics Gold chip by using a SD card reader and following the directions on the Navionics site. As part of the process, I installed the Webstore application and it detected my Navionics chip and then displayed a screen where I could choose to download updates and three or four other optional item such as Sonar Charts via a series of checkboxes. I proceeded with only the updates selected and the Webstore app started downloading some data. After about 20-25 minutes, it came back saying the update was complete and that I had 364 days of updates left. All seemed well and good, right? Wrong!

After “updating” the chip I happily went out to the garage and plugged it into the E5, but upon looking around at the charts I didn’t see any difference in any of the areas I was interested in. Ok, that wasn’t completely unexpected, since obviously there might have been no changes to those charts. However, my OCD kicked in and plugged the chip back into the PC to take a look at the files. Not one single file on the chip had been changed. They all had dates that were from three months ago, meaning the update hadn’t worked for some reason. Concerned I went back into the Webstore and discovered I could no longer get to any of the previous screens that allowed me to select items to download. The only message I got (and still get) is one in red saying “A chart has already been purchased for this chip”.

After two weeks of unresponsiveness and unhelpful generic emails from Navionics support, I called them today to discuss the problem, and they’re now telling me that the bundled chip isn’t eligible for updates or “Freshest Data” as they call it. They say they can’t explain why I saw the update options that I did and that the bundled chips can’t be updated. Needless to say, I’m a tad annoyed and somewhat skeptical with this answer, however I have no real course of action unless I can find someone with the bundled chip who is getting Freshest Data updates. Help please!
