no, I did not run new wire from the batts to bow. I believe the oem wire was/is 8ga, and since I stayed 12v, I saw no reason. I was checking the inline fuse on the original power wire, and the glass fuse was corroded, and broke in two when I finally got the fuse holder apart. Could not find a matching glass fuse, so I got a resettable 50amp breaker, and installed the new breaker in place of the old in-line fuse holder. I would suggest you do the same, on the assumption you have an inline fuse w/ a 40amp fuse, you may have trouble finding the 40amp glass fuses, I could not find them locally, and this 50amp breaker is re-settable, and was <$6.00 at the local boat dealer. New matching power plug was $9.00 @ dealer, while the same one at BPS is $15 or more. My Ipilot arrived 
today, so got to get busy and get this install done.
