    Default Hbird 596 HD DI

I have only been out on the water 3 times with my new unit. For the life of me I can't seem to get my settings right. Can anyone provide me with a good starting point so I can get this thing set up such as sensitivity. It has both Down Imaging and 2d sonar. Thanks.

Seems like there is a lot of clutter when switching from one setting to another.

I dont have that unit, but go with the manual and set them to low settings and adjust one at a time till you get it tweaked just right.

A couple of things to try.....

    Start out at factory defaults......

Find an interesting piece of structure and take a snapshot of it....then throw out your anchor and play with the settings on that snapshot to see what settings work well with that snapshot....

Water conditions can change dramatically from area to area making it difficult to find an ideal setting that works in all conditions of the same body of water....

Taking the time to work with a snapshot allows trying different settings on the exact same piece of water with unchanging water conditions .....

look at the pictures in the thread that i started (talked my wife into gettting me 597ci hd/di ) in the thoughs pictures in the thread i keep turning the sensitivity down until i end up sensitivity set to only 1 or 2 on the traditional 2d chart speed 4 or 5. di (this is were i really dont like the di) the softer the bottom the more i need to turn it up to get desired results.you will have to fine tune di alot more than 2d. remember the settings that im using may be alot different than the lake that use are on.

Thanks to all. Kosmo that is wild that turning the setting down that low.

Basically I will use it to find structure for crappie fishing and see if it is holding fish.

In the winter I do a lot of sauger fishing on the Ohio River. My friend used his DI last year to find a school of sauger on a drop off. Basically that is where I will use it mostly.

Any other suggestions will be appreciated.

Now keep in mind I went from a unit that was useless to this 596. How do you interpret "things" on 2d that would be fish. What are you lookin for?

You have Ur unit really figured out. That's amazing 2d sensitivity on 1.

What do fish show up as on 2d compared to DI?

anything that you see in the picture that is not attached to the structure or the bottom is assumed to be fish.theres at leased four small fish hugging the bottom starting on the left side going to the right.there appears to be small fish suspended to the left, top and right of the structure

you asked how to identify fish from structure. heres a picture with the fish id turned on.the little fishes are what the unit thinks are fish.most of them are some are not.this is were i think that di can help.you can see in the di picture were it is zoomed all kinds of really little fish, probably 1 or 2 inch stuff, but there they are 2 bigger fish. there on the 2d to .you can see the bigger arches if you look though the pop up info box.you can use both to help you .hope this helps a little. theres another bigger fish but he happens to be right on the 10 foot line. hes on the left side of the screen right on the dept box on the 2d. the arch is just below
