To see fish on the bottom in say 30 feet of water is 2d better than DI? Like I said I sauger fish the river and they hug the bottom. How do you distinguish possible fish rather than in just being he bottom.

this is a very good question. i will tell you that i believe for me i like the 2d.maybe more people will comment on this and we can get there different views on this.now i been looking at some pictures and heres one to kind of show what you might see on the ohio river.this picture was taken on the Tennessee river ,it shows alot of fish and some rocks, some of these fish could very well be sauger i dont no for sure.later on this winter i will have some pictures of sauger.(yes i fish for sauger to)now keep in mind in this picture i had my 2d sensitivity set to high but i think it will give you some ideal. also theres a setting in sonar view menu to change bottom view to reveal fish that are near the bottom.

I see on a lot of your pics you have 2d or DI. Is this a good idea most of the time?

ok, im awake now .to answer your question ,these units are pretty small so i would say that the screen with one view would be the best,as far as the size of the imformation on the screen.i guess each individual would have to decide what is best for them.i like and use it most of the time, spit sonar with the zoom like in this picture

How do you change the sensitivity for each screen in the 2d/DI split screen mode??

also theres a setting in sonar view menu to change bottom view to reveal fish that are near the bottom.
Maybe enlighten me on this too...you just talking about the bottom sensitivity??

I've had my 597 for about 3 months now and was havin trouble figuring out how to set the silly thing until I started reading your thread.

Not trying to hijack the OP's thread...but since these units are about the same I thought I'd ask here and maybe you could shed some light for both of us. Thumbs Up

while viewing the 2d/di push menu once.a box will appear with option to change sensitivity for 2d and some more options for zooming in on the upper or lower of 2d, on down that list will be an option saying imaging sensitivity, that is the di.there is also options to zoom in on the di upper or lower
