    Default Circuit instruction please


    Accessory wiring on my 86 Ranger Comanche is burned or missing. The switch at the console to the battery to the bilge pump all has to be replaced. what connects to what to complete the circuit? Thanks in advance...JDL

    Not sure if I completely understand what you are saying. Is it just the bilge pump that is the issue? It could be wiring or it might be the switch. You should have two wires coming from bilge pump, one red and one black. The black wire is the ground and should run to your fuse block where it is plugged into the ground lug probably on the side of the fuse block. The red wire runs from the pump to the back of the switch where it is connected to the number "2" post. A hot wire runs from the fuse panel to the number "1" post on the switch. Thus, when the switch is on is completes the circuit and your pump receives power. If you don't have a digital multi-meter you should invest in one. You can use it to ensure you are getting 12v to the pump and or the switch. If you are getting 12v to the pump with the switch on it is a bad pump. The first thing I would do is check all the connections and the fuse. You could take the two wires off the back of the switch and touch them together and the pump should come on if all the other connections are good. I hope I answered your question.

    I reread your post and it seems that "all" your accessory wiring is burned or bad? It's still basically the same concept I stated above. Per the table above each item will ground to the fuse block and each item with have a hot wire running from the fuse block to the switch. Then a wire running from the switch to the item you are powering. The exception is your gauges, they are powered up when the ignition is turned on and may have an additional wire for the "sender" on a fuel gauge or temperature gauge. You might also have some multiple items that are on one circuit such as multiple courtesy lights and livewell lights going to one switch. 12 volt wiring is pretty simple. Good luck, you will get it worked out in no time. If you have to run a bunch of new wires get you a fish tape from Lowe's or Home Depot. They are worth their weight in gold when you are trying to pull wires through the gunwale of a boat and are quite inexpensive.
