Its my experience that the shad will be in a greater area the more area you light up ,for example if u use a green light ( tube ) in a clear lake it will bring the shad to a huge area around the boat therefore the shad will be more spread out and harder to hook and use for bait. If you use a white light it will concentrate them somewhat closer to the area . so using a dimmer switch and cutting some of the light may bring the shad even closer to the light.I want to use the dimmer only after I have brought the shad to the area once they get there they tend to pattern around the light and swim in a circular motion. If you have alot of light the pattern is pretty big...so maybe cutting the light will bring them closer just an idea...
Have you tried cutting the light before...you sound like you are well versed in the area...
