You do have a thru-hull transducer, right? If not, it won't shoot thru the hull.

Both trolling motor puck style, and transom mount transducers will work fine for his application. The term "thru-hull" when referring to a transducer describes a specific mounting style. Thru-hull transducers are designed with a threaded post mount. A hole is drilled through the hull and the transducer is secured into this hole with gaskets. Nuts threaded onto the threaded post of the transducer clamp the transducer gaskets to both the interior and exterior surfaces of the hull. It is called a thru-hull due to the fact that it literally and physically goes through the hull material. Not the right application for a kayak.

Here is a link to Humminbird's video on using their "kayak kit" for mounting your standard transom mount transducer to the interior of a kayak.

Next week I'll be in both Leesville and Fort Polk on business. Not sure about what day yet. PM me with some way to get in contact with you and I'll let you know when my schedule firms up. Maybe while I'm on base we could meet up. By then you may have it working, but I still wouldn't mind shaking your hand and thanking you for your service to our country.
