I would go with Lowrance if it were me. I have a Hummingbird 150, and the picture of the bottom looks like corduroy. It came on my new boat, or I would have gotten a better one.

Some people find down image as a replacement for 2d sonar....
Some people find down imaging as a second tool along with 2d sonar....
Also remember to consider the shape of the sonar beams in your decisions.....
2d sonar is a cone shape...down imaging is a thin slice eminating 90 degrees out both sides of the xducer.....
Also remember some of the DI units are 2d/DI and some are DI only....
Always consider how you will use your unit and how each different unit may (or may not) have the features that best fits your methods of fishing tactics...

If it was me , I'd get one with 2d/Di , I have the HB 798 ci SI HD , Use 2d most of the time and DI once in a while , Haven't used the SI much as the lakes I fish are really low right now .
I chose the Hds-5 with lake insight because of the Hb issues with there gps. That might be something to consider when picking what company suits your needs and yes they are expensive. The issues with Hb is the donut.
Jackie,
The Humminbird DI models have both 2D sonar and Down Imaging. This way you can see your jig with the 2D sonar and the detail with Down Imaging. You will have the best of both worlds. You will have the option to choose which one you want to use and you will not be limited.
man, all this talk has got me confused. I am in the market to replace an older unit on my boat also. I am not out to spend an arma n leg though. Any models to look at would be appreciated. I mainly fish lakes with 12 ft of water or less.
