Some people find down image as a replacement for 2d sonar....

Some people find down imaging as a second tool along with 2d sonar....

Also remember to consider the shape of the sonar beams in your decisions.....

2d sonar is a cone shape...down imaging is a thin slice eminating 90 degrees out both sides of the xducer.....

Also remember some of the DI units are 2d/DI and some are DI only....

Always consider how you will use your unit and how each different unit may (or may not) have the features that best fits your methods of fishing tactics...
