I am considering the HDS 7 with SS and lake insight. Have acouple of conserns first the water tightness of the unit. It seems there have been some folks that have there units stop working after fishing in the rain. Secondly I fish a lot of relatively shallow lakes ie. 8-10 FOW. is the side scan gona be very usefull in shalllow water? any thoughts or experinces would be apppreciated thanks

The water tightness issues were in a very early run in the production, and the affected units were produced nearly 15 months ago. A new unit on the shelf right now shouldn't have any issues. The units have always carried a 2 yr Warranty, so you are more than safe. I fish a lot of 8-10 FOW, and I think the unit is very useful on side and down scan. I typically run the 3 way split with map, down, and side.

The Structure Scan will work great in any water down to around 5ft. or less. Then all di/ds units start to become less effective. Thumbs Up

The water thing was almost 2 years ago on a older style model -not the HDS series they have been trouble free with 2 yr warranty and if u live in IL don't buy in Il cause u will pay bout $130.00 in sales tax to our crooked politicians, I checked prices around when I bought my HDS8 found Brian BBg marine to have cheapest price and very helpful to work with,I had lots of questions and he is also a sponsor of crappie.com, I would buy again from him.

Table Rock Lake, which this was taken on, is clear water. I don't get near that clear on any of the Missouri lakes that I fish.
