Cool just cant seem to see it

the sidescan, i put on automatic as suggested by lowrance. i do not see on the back side of my boat what the si sees. i am focusing on it more and more, since i have resolved most of my other problems in seeing for instance the down structure scan. i've finally mastered that puppy, I HOPE!
the si seems to still baffle me, as to what i am seeing and not seeing.
for instance , if i am in the middle of the lake, why would i see the same brushy looking things on the side as i do when i am in the canals????????????
when i pass a canal, would i not see that as an opening? NOT
    INPUT APPRECIATED!

depends on how far your scanning each way, I have found that the farther out the less detail, and as for the brush, maby it is really there, I can not tell you how much more trash, logs, barrels, junk on the bottom that I never thought was there, on some of the stuff, I just said no way, wife said take the underwater camera and have a look , so I did, the si was spot on. what I see on the 7 and 8 was there, brush tires, old screen door, trust your electronice, but remember to try and scan shorter distance side to side, I usually scan half the water depth, ie, 20 ft of water 10 ft. out 50 ft 25 out , that is not in concreet just a suggestion I use.

Crappie I used a 997 side scan for 5 years, a side scan is nothing more than what u would see if u looked to the right or left of your boat as u move say 3 to 7 mph. If u pass say a sunken boat it will look like a sunken boat. In the case of a HB997 it looks just like a camera shot of your subject. If u have some picts of your side shots post a couple here and we can look at them.

I have had mine out a couple times now and like it so far. I do have a small problem. The left side looks great but the right side looks as if the contrast is set to high. The transducer is mounted to the right of my motor on the transom. I think I may have it tilted a little. I'm going to the lake tommorrow and will mess with it some more. took some snapshots and will try to get them up soon.
