898c SI needs help before i throw it in the lake!

its beautiful!!! love the fish symbols----and i just talked on the phone to one of the crappie master teams and they said they use the humminbird fish symbols always, so -----------who are these arch people, bass fisherman?

i will see some lines, which i figure are fish, not noise, not turned into arches,and then i compare to structure scan on what i see, am running them side by side in the same window, to try to figure it out. in all honesty, most of our fish are in the cover or deep water now, hidden. so even though there is a lot of water, i think the fish are scarce. my newest answer to give myself some peace of mind, before i go completly off the plank!

can you show us a split screen 200/83 ovewr some known structure sometime when you get a chance. p.s. i think that im going to keep using the fish id mode. never really tryed it before. i like it

see half your picture, kosmos, what are you holding, your camera? what do you think are the differences in the lowrance structure scan image and the humminbird down image? its been a few weeks im trying to remember----------just in case i might want to go back to the humminbird----------after all they still believe in fish symbols and i think lowrance is on the way out with them-------

I'll be honest, if 2d sonar and fish symbols are the most important thing for you, you might think about not buying a DI/SI unit at all. Normally you don't hear much talk about 2d at all when someone buys these units. Very few people that I know that have si/di use the 2d sonar at all. If fishid is what make you believe there are fish, and in turn allows you to catch fish, you could save a bundle of money and go with a cheap 2d unit. Just another option.

tundra cell phone.its what i take my pictures with............. the lowrance d/s is alot better than humminbird d/i. (in the ones that use the side scan elements) the new 500 seres and 788 have the d/i elements higher resolultion. they are new time will tell

Much truth in the words written by master Mduncan62. You can get a nice color high def unit and still save a nice chunk of money.

UPDATE: couple hours and a couple gallons of gas made some changes, backed up on the ramp a few times , changed the angle of transducers---again---have fish symbols now (little tiny ones) crap! no arches--------but had a pm today from someone who has been following my plight , he gave me a link that gives me great insight into settings etc----http://www.bbcboards.net/zerothread?id=557919 shall try a few things on the sensitivity for fish arches tomorrow. in the meantime lowrance, troy, is sending me promptly today, a new transducer, just in case, thats my real problem. who knows, maybe its not me ---again---maybe it is the transducer---course with hubby still layed up and back to the chiro today---the new transducer may have to wait--------just let me make my crappie tournament sat----------then we will start dealing with this problem again! i took more pics today, of my lovely fish symbols, tiny as they may be, and the structure scan, also played with the side by side, just to see what else i need to learn more about-------
