Along with anything else sticking into the cone.the screen can be full of fish symbols and not have a fish for miles. Turn off fish ID and learn how to use it.

I'M really late posting as i did not get on the water to go fishing and try out the structure scan until this evening. i got to one of my favorite night fishing spots, and started catching some nice ones. came home with 17 keepers in a few hours----really had fun---in the meantime as you can guess the structure scan worked, and off i went. ( still no fish symbols and i need to play with the settings on the structure scan, so advise would be appreciated as to contrast , etc on the structure scan, and also the sensitivity and colorline you all are using on your sonar. all advice appreciated.
P.S the structure scan that was sent back to lowrance was probably ok after all ---as we wired the 2nd one a little differently and it worked fine. it did not work the way we wired the 1st one ---OOPS! my husband is still a saint and i shall never mention this one little mistake again. lol

as i get feed back and get this thing adjusted i will update again---but i will get fish symbols and arches( GOMER) or it will go back--- i have about 20 days left for it to work as i desire.

question to GOMER or anyone else---why would a fish symbol not be the same as an arch in terms of the finder identifying them---so therefor an arch could be just something in the water triggering a response as an arch as the same as a fish symbol in terms of you telling the finder how you want it to identify the fish---symbol or
    arch.

interesting---as i was adjusting the contract on structure scan i could, depending on how i set it ,make it show white marks , more white marks, or less white marks.--so who says the white mark is a fish----maybe its just the contrast setting you have set-----------think about that ------------

You'll only get fish symbols when you viewing the 2D, and when fishid is turned on. This is true for all the SI units. In Side scan or down scan you won't have fish symbols.

I went to a seminar and the guy pointed out the little white flecks as as fish. You could see they corresponded with the arcs on the sonar.
I'm interested to hear these comments too on the adjustments and settings. I just haven't taken the time to sit down and look at it that much. I know when I switch from 455kz to 800kz, the screen looks too dark. I'm sure it's a setting, I just need to set my rod down and play with the buttons.
I've always heard (and believed) you get a truer picture without fish symbols. The reason being, anything suspended in the water column (leaves, weeds, debris) shows up as a fish symbol. I also believe anything suspended in the water column will show up as an arc. Personally (I prefer arches) I think if you got away from the fish symbols and got comfortable not having them, you would learn to prefer it. However, if you really like the symbols stay with them. I don't think it's going to make or break a days fishing. Some folks put too much into it, it seems to me you do okay. I know your catching a lot more with those symbols than I am in my office.

He is correct. If you have your unit set to show fish symbols, the only thing on the unit that will show them is your Sonar, not the Side or Down Scan. As for the contrast settings, if it's been raining and there is a lot of debris in the water, I'll adjust my contrast to show less. If the debris has settled, I'll adjust it to show more.

I'm glad you were able to get the Side/Down Scan working, hope I was of some help with the wiring.

ps, if you see a whole lot of white specks hanging out around some structure on the downscan, THAT'S FISH! You need to introduce your minnow or jig to them.

Switchfire is a 2d sonar setting. Nothing to do with SI/DI
