i spent a couple great hours out in the boat, fine tuning my hds 7, now the fun begins, what great pictures on the screen. still tweaking, but now in love with it.
i believe their is more detail in the hds7 structure scan than was in the humminbird 898 si, but at the same time the humminbird was a bit more user friendly.
but i do like the fact that i can move my overlays on the hds to the bottom, so as to not take up part of my screen above.(cannot do on humminbird)
had i spent the time trying to find the problem with my humminbird as i have my lowrance, i would probably still have the humminbird. i just didnt want to put my husband through any more changing of products and rewiring. i will probably be fine tuning for a long time as i love to piddle with electronics and all the new gadgets, as if you couldnt have told already. i will say i am sorry to humminbird that this thread was started out as derogatory toward their product and remains so on the board---------frustation can do a lot! all in all both products are good, in fact great, i just happened to have the unusual problems on both it seams----thats the way it goes in my life-----------oh well off to the wonderful world of fishing----i will post more pictures in the future!

Recent pics look great! I've been reading all the post since the the beginning keeping a closed mouth because there 're other members that could give better help but, I'm so happy you've got it figured out. Good fishing, and I think you're going to be happy with your new unit.Wish my budget (wife) would allow me to purchase the exact one.:D

thanks hightower, i appreciate your support--and my husband appreciates me being done with the whole thing------welllll as far as he is concerned anyway----ill be playing for quite awhile---i have some new configurations to post either tonight or tomorrow. the new 4.0 upgrade gave the hds 7 the 3 screen format if choosen, like the hds 8. pretty cool. i will post an example soon. been playing with it. still trying out the different colors on structure scan and sonar, to decide what i like to see best, and or whats easier to see depending on conditions and depth as i have found out. learning curve for sure---hang in there, sell some old gold and go buy one!

since i started this project with the new fishfinders at the end of speck season, and am just riding around at present, playing, the answer is no. i have not actually fished with it yet, as my season, crappie is over. but , i must confess, that with this new technology, i believe i see crappie as not before, and could be actually still fishing for them , as i see them suspended, in places i hadnt looked before and in some i had. who knows i may throw out a minnow in a day or so and test the waters. i will , however, fish for a few bream, in my local waters in the next few days, although i must confess , our side of the harris chain does not turn out many large bream. in addition i have found , in my runabouts playing with the hds, more dropped off trees than i have ever found in 20 years. cant wait until next winter---------1st one to the xmas trees gets the fish! lol

SI (or SS by L) is amazing at finding bream beds...just troll down the bank until you see a bunch of beds grouped together and then have at 'em....
