I know the 898's and up have a split screen ability to show 2d/DI/SI. Not sure about the 700 series.

You have 3 buttons for favorites. On the bow, that is my first button. On the console it is my second button.

Im no expert but side scan let's you cover water quickly looking for structure, when I see something that looks suspicious I mark a waypoint and go back over it with down scan to get a better look at it. I use Lowrance stuff and I see most of you are referring to HB, but it's all pretty much the same. I personally don't think I'd be satisfied with downs scan only. It doesnt take long the learn what is what, but i think i learn something every trip. Just my two cents worth.

    Lonestar,
Thanks. I think DI would help differentiate what your seeing on 2D/SI. But you gave a good scenario, mark then investigate.

You are very correct. Here is a splitscreen shoot 2D/Downscan of brush sunk next to a bridge column. I knew that all the blue was bounceback from the concrete but I sure wouldn't have interpreted the 2D correctly that there was also brush down there.........

So does eveyone mount their transducer for the SI/DI on the trolling motor or hull? Just wondering the mounting locations. What does the "peak-to-peak" watts mean?

all SI units have all three. Remember though, the more you split the screen the smaller images you will get and the more you will miss. In my opinion, to buy a unit with DI only is total waste of money. Your old 2D units will do as well. It's like trying to explain television to someone in 1937. They just don't quite get it. The SI is so good that after a week you wonder how you ever caught a fish without it.
