    I think this depends heavily on where you put in versus where you're going to fish. If I put in a creek and end up staying there all day the outboard doesn't get run that much. Add in the fact the boat may sit idle for a few months and it's nice to have a trickle charge on at all times.

    I have a 3 bank BPS 5 amp charger, it's at least 10 years old and has never given me a problem. I think I gave around $90 for it on sale, if it dies tomorrow it owes me nothing.
