Honestly, Lowrance 14% Market share growth in 2010, HB had 4%, so I know Lowrance would take additional sales. HB does appear to not really care about keeping customers. Sorry, but that's sad.

Ain't that the truth! I am sick and tired of hearing about it! If I was HBird, I wouldn't fix it just for spite and would beg those on here who have gone beyond making a point and being down right RUDE to go buy the competitor's product. I am sure Lowrance would just LOOOOOOOOOVE to have them as customers.

Since I own both, I will say what I want and when I want about either unit. I could care less either way. I am here to support my friends.

Now this makes interesting discussion...which is exactly why I started "Project HB Donut"....
Point 1: ...Humminbird has NEVER (as of yet) officially said they will not address the "Donut"....Lack of an answer is not proof of HB future plans for wish list items....
Point 2: ...Humminbird WILL NEVER suggest potential customers to buy Lowrance...That's cutting their own industry throat....
Point 3: ...I (and the other 30 "donut haters" that skeptics call it) do not wish to have to change brands just because of such a simple fix.....
Point 4: ...(IN an example) It took Humminbird a long time to address the wish list item of "user selected" removal of the water column...i.e "Contour Feature"....Lack of expedited inclusion of addressing a wish list item is not proof of HB future plans for wish list items...
Point 5: ...More than once it has been suggested and discussed that the "Donut" could very easily be programmed as "user selectable" where it could be turned into a directional arrow OR a "Donut"....This feature update would satisfy everyone in the discussion and potentially curb some lost sales for HB because of people deciding Lowrance just because of the "Donut".....
I think if everyone in the discussion would take the time to thoroughly examine each and every post in the "Project HB Donut" thread (and everywhere else the "Donut" is being discussed).....the ONLY...and I repeat...THE ONLY sonar industry people that are telling "unsatisfied HB Donut owners" to buy Lowrance is HB owners against the the discussion....
So there it is ...in plain open site..for all the "powers that be at HB"....
SATISFIED HB owners are telling UNSATISFIED HB owners to buy Lowrance.....
What's wrong with this picture...??

A one time deal here. I have cleaned up the thread the best I could, unlocked it, and made it a sticky. It is up to you posters as to wether it stays or not. Your choice.

Bill...I, too hope that we can keep the discussion focused on the original thought process that I had in mind when I started all this....
"Project HB Donut" has only 2 very simple goals...
1. Identify and explore the facts regarding the HB "Donut" ....
2. Open a venue of discussion for people who may have issues with the HB "Donut" in their preferred fishing tactics or how the "Donut" may affect their decision on what brand to buy...
I would hope those 2 very simple goals can remain as the discussion continues forth from this point on.....
Everyone following the thread please remember.....The "Donut" is not a flaw in the HB units..the units are working exactly as they are designed.....the "Donut" is merely an inconvenience for slow trollers that could be changed (or redesigned as user selectable as a tracking icon OR a donut)...
Ed's site rules are also simple and plain...NO verbal attacks...NO exceptions...
Bill has went WAY out of his way for this...let's show how we can discuss without friction...

It's pretty simple to understand. the units are operating as designed by Humminbird. It's senseless to go on and on, 42 pages worth, about "H/B fix the donut". That's the way they designed the unit, live with it or move on to another product.
thats the problem,we aint gonna live with it ,i will be changing to lowrance in the fall and alot of other crappie fishermen are doing the same .if u wont to live with it it ur choice ,i can fish with it like it is now to but they could fix it.people talk about lowrance customer service can call humminbird and ask about the donut issue and see how humminbird customer support is Rofl

Why wait till the fall? Get yourself a refurbished Lowrance from Cabelas right now, they have them on sale. Do you think H/B is ignoring the fix if it was as easy a fix as the arm chair quarterbacks of crappie.com think it is? Maybe it's a lot more involved than everyone believes it to be.
