I, for one... actually find it useful in "Project HB Donut"...

This shows the similarity in the video that chaunc posted with the video of a pro HB user...

The "Donut" in the video is "indisputably" being shown on the pro's unit with the boat moving at 0.1mph, 0.2mph, and 0.3mph....

It never hurts to have several videos of the same issue ..if nothing else..so we can all all see that the issue is not just a fluke of circumstances....

Took me several looks to see the donut. My donut is always in the middle of the screen.

I've seen it with Ipilot, on cruise control, with a heading chosen ( forget the terminology ). Basically, the GPS is on. But basically, I'm going in the wrong direction and it is happy.

Kind of the same problem, just a different piece of equipment from the same manufacturer.

Direction is relative to the gps unit, not the boat. You can be heading in the right direction but loosing ground because of wind or current. I ain't used mine in a while. This is why I keep my track crums turned on all the time. Helps with direction.

Humminbird... are you listening? Watching? How about even Caring!!!

After 3 years of Having Ronda Green and others at Humminbird ignore my requests to fix the Donut or even to acknowledge that it is a problem! I will never give Humminbird my bussiness again

".he told me basically the same thing that my garmin gps does his lowrance does. once you slow down or stop it just starts moving all around.the only difference with the hummingbird is that the software they have just shuts down at low speeds so as to keep you from this incorrectness. ive tryed useing my garmin at these speeds.it kindof looks like it works but it really doesnt do very well[/QUOTE]

How does the competition work around the "Donut" in a price competitive unit...??

    Rickie,

From what you have just said, it looks as though the competition has not actually "worked around" this problem. They are just showing our doughnut using a different visual icon. If I read it right, Low and Garmin still have an arrow, but it doesn't really seem to know where to point. Since it's basically spinning a circle, it's just another type of doughnut such as the HB units show. It really looks to me as though no manufacturer has the ability to track at the speeds we are looking for accurately at this time.

    Am I interpreting this right?

Nope, you misunderstood me. I'm being blown off course and it doesn't seem to know. I only mention in this thread because I don't think only the depth finders have this problem.

    I am clueless.

I don't have a lot of "practice" with the Ipilot. Billbob and I gave up on spotlock when we were out on a gusty wind day. This is a job that gps can't do alone. It needs accelerometer help. Ain't cheap to add something like this.
