Rickie, I just hope more of these viewers are contacting HB or this will just be another complaint thread that eventually dries up.

FYI - I exchanged email w/ HB Greg earlier today. He indicated that actually calling HB customer service may be the most effective way to get noticed. Apparently all of the calls are logged and will be viewed by mgmt. Here is a quote from that email
"Rob,
Thanks for both the post and message. The Marketing department is well aware of the “donut” issue and I have been working with someone on the board for some additional information so that I can present a more professional and informed petition about this to those who decide what features our units will have and/or what the Engineers will work on. Unfortunately I have a lot going on at work and home right now so this petition is getting delayed. I think that contacting the Humminbird Customer Resource folks about getting this resolved is a good way to go about getting attention to this as there are reports made off of all phone contacts and many people pay attention to this report, so it would get it in front of more people here.
Greg Walters"

I started a thread on an HB support forum also:
Unofficial Humminbird Side Image Forums www.sideimageforums.com :: View topic - 997 loses GPS position at slow trolling speeds, below .6 mph
Response from HB:
Thank you for contacting Humminbird. We appreciate your interest in our products. This is the design of the unit. There are no updates that would enable the unit to show the boat icon at 0.4 to 0.1 mph.
In order to get the boat icon you will need to be traveling at least 1 to 2 miles an hour or more.
If we can assist you further on this subject or any other Humminbird related questions please feel free email us again or contact our Customer Resource Center at 1-800-633-1468 to speak with a Customer Service Representative. Our hours are Monday thru Friday 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Wednesday 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Good Boating and Fishing!
I have a fax service that's pay per month and digital. Get me a fax number inside of HB, I'll set up a script to fax them 1 time every minute from 8-5. Make it say "Fix the Donut" then a picture of a donut, and the bottom line will say "And this donut will stop"
That sounds like a canned answer to me. I know that the wheels are turning right now over there and that this can be corrected by a firmware update. I agree with Rickie, the more stories this thread contains of people not buying HB units because of it and the more we pester them on their supoport site, the more attention we will garner.
Here is the CS email, didn't see a fax #....

I truely feel the "Donut" can and will be fixed...IF we keep "Project HB Donut" alive and pressing forward....
Remember the shallow water issue....??
They fixed it (supposedly)....because customers screamed loud enough....
Everyone please remember....
Here's the facts...There are things going on in the background addressing the "Donut"...
This "movement" is being pressed on 3 fronts....each front has it's own importance....
1. Greg and Joby are working on this from the inside (I promise You)...
2. There are a few select sponsored pros that are contacting people they know at HB..
3. We (the customer) have to keep screaming...(at HB, of course, not each other)...
Rickie (an almost satisfied HB owner)
