Wonder what folks would do if the govt decided to put the fudge factor back into GPS accuracy?
jsplinter..I would never be able to find it now or I would post a link to that conversation between us and Greg here at CC..
The quote is paraphrasing Greg's actual words...here in the forum....and I think he was referring to the original decision by HB when the "boat directional tracking icon" algorithms were first being written...
I'll see if I can find it..

no im not asking for the whole post....I am asking if the response was recently in the last couple days, since you started this?
or was it from a long time ago
It was from months ago..way before "Project HB Donut"...
I have confidence that this entire "Project HB Donut" thread will somehow, eventually find it's way to SOMEBODY that matters in the "Halls of HB"....
That's why we have to keep the "constructive movement" alive and pressing forward...
We have to prove to HB they are losing money to Lowrance simply because of the "Donut"...

I had a 788CI and 797C2 SI. I got the money together to buy another boat and was going to upgrade electronics. The 797 and 788 did a good job of showing me what I needed to see, but once I found it, the donut made it almost impossible to sit on the spot and fish it. Drifting 10-15ft off before the unit even knew it was something I couldn't accept, and 50% of the fishing I do is submerged "items". So when the time came and I found the boat I wanted, I sold my old boat and gave the guy one heck of a deal with electronics, just to be done with it.
If not for the donut, I'd have a 998 and at least still the 788 on my new boat. I had no problem with any other functions of the unit. Having to speed away from my waypoint to get the bearings back, or running in circles was just too much. The HDS system keeps me on the spot, and on the fish. I'm going with a 3yr refresh on electronics, so a year and a half from now I'll be buying again, and hope the donut is history well before that time.
Being as you may be looking at HB again in the future....
Would you copy & paste your post above in an e-mail to HB...??

i just emailed them
Here is some more potential ideas, someone could list project HB donut on craigslist explaining what it is in laymen terms to guys like me who dont have gps. Also this may sound dumb but maybe some people could show up at Basspro and Cabelas with a shirt reading Project Humminbird Donut and have crappie.com website on it. Like I said sounds probably far fetched, because of like funding for a shirt with the writing on it. But just say if some was to do this at the big spring sales in places and humminbird reps were there it may stir the pot alittle. Like I said just an Idea. The youtube thing would be great though. Hope yall dont think I am an idiot, but I really like the 597ci HD DI but the whole donut thing really concerns me about making a purchase.
